GRANITE
The Earth’s oldest Building Material. Granite is quite literally as old as the earth. It is formed from liquid magma, the molten rock still found at the core of the planet, cooled slowly to form a substance approaching the hardness and durability of diamond. Granite is an igneous rock, the name reflecting its fiery beginnings. The chemical composition of granite is similar to that of lava. However, granite owes its hardness and density to the fact that it has been solidified deep within the earth, under extreme pressure. Over the eons, seismic activity has changed the crust of the planet, forcing veins of granite to the surface. Glaciers scraped off layers of dirt, sand and rock to expose granite formations. Typically revealed by outcrops, the deposits have been discovered on all the continents. With natural material like granite, a certain amount of “movement” or grain in the stone must be expected. Many people find this flow and blending of colors to the the most compelling reason for using granite.

Solid surface is a solid, homogeneous sheet or slab designed for interior application . It’s primary uses are in residential areas. but have been used extensively in more commercial applications as well. It is an ideal material for bathrooms, kitchens, work stations, vanity tops, transaction counters, and other areas of high visibility and traffic. It has the elegance of stone, but because of thermoformability, offers designers and architects greater creative license and control. It is also extremely durable. Solid surface is stain and chemical resistant. Stains from most household and commercial chemical agents are temporary, and can easily removed with a common cleanser or a Scotch Brite pad. It is also fire rated and heat resistant. The colors and designs are consistent throughout the entire sheet of material. Finally, solid surface is elegant and aesthetically pleasing to the eye as well as to the touch. Solid surface is a beautiful product that catches the eye of everyone.

LAMINATE
Plastic laminate has been part of our surroundings for decades yet most people don’t know much about the product, that is found virtually everywhere – homes, restaurants, hospitals, and even bowling alleys!! The name itself – “plastic laminate”, can lead to misunderstandings. High pressure decorative laminate (HPDL) is made by saturating sheets of decorative and core paper with resins, then pressing them under high heat, fusing the layers into a single sheet. Surprisingly, a sheet of laminate is only 18% plastic resin; the rest is paper. Laminate sheets are bonded, using special adhesives, to “substrates” made of plywood, fiberboard or particle board which give the final product its strength and substance. The laminate surface provides resistance from wear and impact.

Here are some interesting “Factoids” about laminate: Laminate was originally invented as a material for electrical insulation. “Woodies”, the wood paneled station wagons popularized in the 50′s and 60′s, were actually sided with woodgrain laminate. Today, most bowling alleys are surfaced with laminate. Wood lanes can be warped by the weight of bowling balls; plastic laminate lanes allow for a more accurate bowl. We sell Formica, Wilsonart, and Pionite brands of Laminate.

STAINLESS STEEL
Stainless steel, which was first developed in Sweden , is a common name for chromium-iron alloys containing at least 12% chromium. The type of stainless steel used in kitchens and bathrooms is ‘Austenitic’, which also contains at least 8% nickel. Stainless steel is used in many everyday applications in the home, industry, hospitals, food processing, farming, aerospace and in many other areas. Stainless steel is also “green” and healthy for those looking for a safe product, with no adverse effects on the environment. Some of the benefits of stainless steel is it is fire and heat resistance, strong, modern and attractive appearance, and is the first choice for strict hygiene conditions, such as hospitals, kitchens, abattoirs, and other food processing plants. Stainless steel responds well to cleaning, never wearing out from excessive cleaning, as long as the certain procedures are followed. Routine cleaning can be done with using warm water and a cloth. If, more cleaning is needed, you can use a mild detergent and warm water can do a great job. Make sure you rinse the surface thoroughly to prevent staining and spotting. Towel dry to prevent water spots which can be caused by minerals in the water. Fingerprints are on of the biggest complaints about stainless steel, but can be taken care of using glass cleaner. Rinse thoroughly and towel dry.
