What You Need to Know

Q: Why choose CSI?

A: We have been in business over 12 years, with integrity, professionalism, knowledgeable about our products, and certified craftsman, allow us to take your concept to completion. We believe this is the only way to conduct business.

Q: Is it necessary to seal stone?

A: All stone, even granite, is porous to some degree, and will absorb moisture over time. Some stones are more porous than others, so it is important to use a penetrating sealer to prevent stains from oil, wine, or other liquid from soaking into the surface.

Q: Can I cut on granite?

A: Sure, but you will dull your knife, You will not harm the granite. Marble on the other hand is more porous material and therefore is much more likely to be damaged by a sharp object.

Q: What is the difference between Granite and Quartz?

A: Granite countertops are made of carved slabs of natural stone containing quartz while quartz is a man-made surface that is composed of 93% quartz aggregates with 7% resin that looks, feels, and weighs like natural stone.

Q: What’s the real difference 3cm and 2cm counters?

A: 3cm (1 ¼” stone counters are thicker than their 2cm (3/4”) counterparts and in that respect are stronger, but not necessarily better. In a kitchen counter application, when installed correctly, either thickness is more than adequate as far as strength is concerned. The differences between the two are really cosmetic. Some 2cm (3/4”) counters are laminated on the finished edge, meaning the granite actually appears to be 4cm (1 ½”) thick. When placed next to a 3cm edge it actually appears thicker. A common concern and deciding factor is the backsplash thickness. Many people consider a 3cm backsplash too thick and disproportionate to the counters. Many granites come in both thicknesses and, so it really depends on the choice of stone you most prefer.

Q:Can I select my slabs?

A: Yes, in-fact we strongly encourage you to view and select your slabs. We do this for 2 reasons: 1) Finding the perfect slab is an emotional experience and you should have opportunity and the joy of actually selecting slabs for your kitchen. They will become conversation pieces for years to come. 2) Samples don’t always represent the actual slab and we want to know exactly what is going to be installed in your kitchen.

Q: Does CSI have a showroom? Is it open to the public?

A: Yes, we have a full service showroom designed specifically with you in mind. We have color selections and edge details. Our showroom is truly an experience in itself. Please come and visit our showroom.

Q: Should consumers be concerned about the attention in the media concerning radon?

A: The Marble Institute of America has already rebuked the information in this article which you can find on their website at www.marble-institute.com. From that page you can access the Enviromental Protection Agency’s findings in regards to Radon levels in natural stone.
